Out of School Child Care Worker

Job Description

Provide full time care for school age children during the 2026 summer break located inside Irene Kelleher Totí:ltawtxw Elementary School, supporting their physical, emotional, and developmental needs through safe, engaging, child-centred programming.

Your Role:

Archway’s Out of School Child Care Worker  with the Eagle’s Nest Early Learning Centre contributes by:

  • Working with the children, family, staff, and supervisor to provide an engaging early childhood experience for school age children.
  • Carrying out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for the children, which include indoor/outdoor, and active/quiet activities.
  • Attending to the children’s physical needs
  • Attending to the children’s psychological and emotional needs
  • Providing a healthy, safe, caring, and nurturing environment. Administering First Aid when necessary. Observing and removing potential hazards.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the parents/caregivers
  • Using the Early Learning Framework and emergent curriculum to provide an environment that reflects the interests of the child.

Our Offer

  • Wage: $23.62 per hour, dependent on education
  • Full time, Temporary Starting July 6th, 2026 until September 4, 2026: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.  NOTE:  The successful candidate must be available for varying shifts during the week, within the hours of 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Getting an Interview–you will be considered if you have:

  • Responsible Adult certification required. Early Childhood Educator Assistant designation is an asset.
  • Emergency First Aid certificate with CPR level C is required.
  • One year experience providing care to children.
  • Understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • The ability to collaborate and work with family, staff, and community partners to provide a holistic and nurturing environment for the child.
  • Ability to engage in daily outdoor activities
  • The ability to adapt and engage, which reflects the needs and interest of the child.
  • The ability to work in an environment where there is a high level of noise and distraction from children.
  • The ability to pay close attention to the child’s physical and emotional needs.
  • The ability to be involved in direct delivery of activities which may include moderate physical activity of walking, standing, and bending.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.

Affordable Child Care Benefit

As of September 1, 2018, the Affordable Child Care Benefit has replaces the Child Care Subsidy. The new funding will help families with the cost of child care, depending on factors like family size, type of care and household income.

The Affordable Child Care Benefit replaces the current Child Care Subsidy on the basis of amendments made to the Child Care Subsidy Regulation.

Parents may be eligible if they…

  • Are a resident of B.C.
  • Are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, a Convention refugee or a person in need of protection
  • Demonstrate financial eligibility. Generally speaking, families that earn up to $111,000 may qualify for funding.
  • Are using an eligible type of child care. Most types of child care are eligible. (licensed group, family or preschool; license-not-required or registered license-not-required; in child’s own home). Child care by a family member who lives with you and licensed occasional child care are not eligible for funding.
  • Working or self-employed
  • Attending school
  • Participating in an employment program
  • Looking for work (only one parent or guardian)
  • Living with a medical condition
  • Have child care recommended by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC)
