About this event

Children’s behaviour is often approached as something to manage, yet beneath every behaviour is a nervous system communicating its experience of safety, stress, and connection. This interactive session invites caregivers and parents into a neuroinformed ™ understanding of what drives behaviour across home and childcare environments. Drawing from interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, and play therapy, participants will learn how stress responses (fight, flight and shutdown) show up in everyday moments, and how co-regulation supports emotional development, learning, and relationships. Through practical examples and simple tools, this workshop offers strategies that can be used immediately. Participants will leave with a shared language and greater confidence, shifting from “How do I stop this behaviour?” to “What does this child’s nervous system need right now?”

Presenter: Johanna Simmons is a clinical counsellor, play therapy supervisor and educator, based in North Vancouver, BC. She integrates brain science, attachment, and play therapy to support children, teens, and families. Author of “Parenting in the 21st Century: The Neuro-Informed Parent,” Johanna helps caregivers understand behaviour through the lens of the nervous system, fostering connection, regulation, and resilience in everyday relationships.
